In writing this book review I am going to declare up front that with my own personal training and self development work I am slightly jaundiced or jaded when it comes to reading books or attending courses on improving our selves and our lives. The subtitle of this book is “Create The Next Chapter of Your Life.” I think that is an overstatement for this book.

The author spends most of the book talking about the aspects of our lives that may be keeping us from being the most successful we can be in our lives. If you are just starting a path of self growth in your life or are preparing to take your self growth to the next step the book is a great primer to help you identify those things that may be standing in your way. I found the information in the book to be accurate, however for the most part it is a rehash of what most people who are on a path of self development are already aware of. The author claims to have a process to move your life to the next level. The description of this did not leave me with a sense that this method was a powerful tool in achieving our desires and goals.

At the end of the book the author states that to make a lasting change you must consistently do four things. Those are: 1) Raise your standards. Change what you demand of your self. 2) Retrain your brain to eliminate your limiting beliefs. 3) Change your Strategy. 4) Take Action. I agree absolutely that taking action is necessary, however very few of us are able to do the other three without some direct assistance. I did not see that assistance given in a transformative way in this book.

It only took an hour for me to read this book and as I said above it may be a good book to read if you are just starting out your journey of self discovery or are entering a guided growth phase. For others on the path I suggest getting a copy of the book for your friends who are just starting their path and for yourself read all of the books in the bibliography. I think that is where you will find the most value.

This is a great review as I have been looking for meaningful holiday gifts for my clients. . . as a business broker, I have been working with business owners that are, as of late, struggling to find new paths in order to keep their businesses open during this Recession. Thanks for posting.
