Over 3100 young and challenged athletes will be gathering in the Fraser Valley this summer to put in an all out effort to win at their chosen sport. Teen age athletes from all over BC will descend upon Langley July 22nd to 25th to compete in 23 different sports at 17 different venues from White Rock to Abbotsford. These eager young men and women will have their days filled with Equestrian, Wrestling, Diving, Soccer, Softball, Basketball, Cycling, Triathlon, Canoe/Kayak, Baseball, Rugby, Swimming, Rowing, Inline Hockey, Golf, Towed Water Sports, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Sailing and Boccia with many different variations of these sports. This will be a miniature Summer Olympics in our own back yards. Indeed many of our local Olympians participated in the BC Summer Games at least once during their athletic career.
These youth are our leaders of tomorrow. They have put in incredible practice, discipline, focus, along with their passion for their sport in order to get them to the games. They are to be commended for their drive, sacrifice and hard work. We need to support these athletes and show them that we care about the difference they make for the community, now and in the future. We see lots of negative press about our youth. Let’s get together and create a whole bunch of great press. Get out and support your favorite sports during the Games. Help to lead these athletes by signing up and volunteering to help out at the Games.
The games need nearly 4000 volunteers to assist, and care for the 3100 athletes, approximately 670 coaches and 300 plus officials during the Games. Volunteers have been signing up. Many volunteers have been working diligently since this past September. We still need at least 2000 more volunteers to make these Games a smashing success. Commit to Making a Difference in the lives of our youth today. Be a part of getting them to the winners circle. Please sign up to volunteer.
