Hi Vance, I have been around a long time. People may not notice that since I am not much of a spotlight seeker. I do what I do because I love doing it, not because recognition is required. I spend a lot of time focusing on community and helping people. The most fun I have is connecting people and watching successes unfold.

Hi Vance

I am a true believer in face to face but that face to face meeting has to happen for a reason like the CBC documentary. Most of the time it is an introduction from others but social media is also a great way to initiate meetings when no introductions are available. I have met a significant number of amazing people through my Social Media activity. Social Media is without a doubt one of the greatest aspects of the internet age. The ability to connect the world through topics and interests that people have in common is more powerful than a lot of people can imagine.

Hi Rainer,

I always believed that meeting someone face to face is irreplaceable with any other means of connection. The internet, starting with email and then social media is very useful to people who already met in person. But I wouldn't completely dismiss the usefulness of those means as a way of being introduced to someone, as a first step to a potential deeper connection that may develop in the future when you learn more about what they do and after you meet them.

I know in the vast majority of cases no meaningful connection will come out of it but once in a blue moon it can happen and it can be a very good one.

Cheers,
Vance

Hi Rainer,

I didn't know your were around for that long. I heard of you once in a while but never saw you until the CBC TV interview of you and others at Dot Com Pho lunch in Vancouver for the coming documentary. I took a video of it and I wrote a post with my impressions of it.

I'll try to find time to visit your blog and website going forward.

Cheers,
Vance

Rainer, It's a good thing you finally listened to John! Sometimes he feels that the information about dryer fires gets redundant. Considering the number of house fires caused by lint in dryers, John can't say it often enough, "Get your dryer cleaned out at least every five years."

Until I had heard John talk about lint caused fires, I thought cleaning out the lint trap was all that was needed.

Thanks to John, I know better.

I have heard that conversation too.

Golden Rule of Networking - Give referrals on to others as you wish to receive them yourself.

If you notice that others are not doing what you want them to do look at yourself and see if your doing what you want others to do. Usually your not. Make the change in yourself and you will attract others like you.
